Greatspace Architecture Website – Brief

Greatspace are a young architectural practice based in Northumberland. They approached Urban River to create a new website which would be an improvement on their existing site from both a design and structural point of view. Their existing site was looking outdated and, at only 3 pages, did not contain a great deal of information about the company. A key aspect of the new site was presenting Greatspace as a ‘professionally informal’ organisation who are experts in their field.

Our solution

We adopted a ‘from-the-ground-up’ approach and created an entirely new web design solution for Greatspace. We worked with them to agree all of the information they wanted – and needed – to appear on the site; one of the main elements was the inclusion of staff profiles to promote Greatspace as the people-oriented business they are. We then mapped this content out into a highly structured and logically-flowing site which presented the information in the best and most readily-accessible way for both users/potential clients and Google’s spiders, which crawl and index all content on the web.

The ever-popular open source platform WordPress was used as the starting point of the content management system, allowing us to structure the page content into sections containing inner pages whilst still making all areas of the website simple and quick to manage for Greatspace’s administrators.

From a brand design point of view, we decided very quickly on the look and style we were looking to achieve with the new site. Because of the very nature of Greatspace’s business, we had some fantastic architectural imagery at our disposal and knew that a very clean, stripped back and predominantly white website would showcase these images superbly. Like all of Urban River’s projects, the site was designed and built to be responsive, which means the layout alters depending on the device it is being viewed upon (e.g. desktop, tablet etc). This ensures the best possible user experience being delivered to all users. You can read more about responsive websites here.
