WordPress was initially launched as an open source blog tool and publishing platform, but since then it has transformed into a fully fledged Content Management System (CMS) which can be used to manage virtually anything. Here are a few examples of websites trying unconventional uses of WordPress:
Woo Jobs – Job Board
Woo Jobs is a job board which allows clients to post jobs they require assistance with, it is powered by WordPress.
Coupon Lobster – Coupon Site
Coupon Lobster is a coupon site which is a large database of discount codes and vouchers.
WP Vote – Social Bookmarking
WP Vote is a site which allows users to submit articles relating to WordPress and it is then voted on.
Just Tweet It – Directory
Just Tweet It is a directory of twitter users split into different categories.
