Meet Sophie – Our Digital Marketer
Published: July 2015
Hi everyone, I’m Sophie, Urban River’s newest member of the team!
In April 2015 I saw the Digital Marketer vacancy posted on Linkedin and after reading the description, I knew it was the job for me and I had to apply. One interview, one presentation and one creative blog post later; here I am!
I graduated in 2013 with a degree in Magazine Journalism. After studying an extracurricular module in Marketing and PR I knew I’d prefer to go down that career path when I left university.
Since then I have been working both in-house and in agencies as a PR and Digital Marketing executive.
What I love most about my job is I can be creative and put my copywriting skills to good use. I’ve always loved to write (and talk) so this role is perfect for me as when I write it never feels like work!
I also love the diverse nature of the role – one day I could be SEO copy writing for a client and the next day I could be brainstorming ideas for a new campaign idea.
The most challenging part of my role I would probably say is Google – their algorithms are always out to get me when I’m working on SEO! All jokes aside, I would probably say the most challenging part of my job is to fully immerse myself into the vision of the client. As you are working on more than one project each day, you have to be consistently focused on the task at hand.
The best day of my career so far would have to be hosting an iconic VIP ‘Record a Song’ event at Abbey Road Studios for events buyers in London in 2013. I got to sing in the famous Studio 2 as well as network with over 50 leading events buyers in the UK. I’ll never forget it (there’s a YouTube video here just in case I ever do)!
When I’m not at work I love to travel and visit new places – my favourite cities I have visited so far are Cape Town and Miami. I’m also a plus size model advocate – I’ll be appearing in the October 2015 issue of Cosmo with Evans Clothing – keep an eye out for me!
