Christmas Adverts – Four of the best

Published: December 2017

When do you start celebrating Christmas? Is it Christmas Eve or 1st December or is it when John Lewis unveil their Christmas advert?

As much of a tradition as Grandad’s post lunch snooze and as eagerly anticipated as Christmas Pudding, the John Lewis advert has become part of the nation’s festive routine.

First aired in 2007, John Lewis have become the benchmark by which all Christmas adverts are judged but the competitors are catching up fast.

Below we have a look at some of the best from previous years.

John Lewis: Monty The Penguin (2014)

The tale of Sam and his penguin friend Monty. Sam, desperate to ‘Give someone the Christmas they’ve been wishing for’ gifts Monty a penguin companion, Mabel.
The Monty and Mabel soft toys sold out almost immediately and it has been one of the most successful Christmas campaigns to date.

Look out for the 2017 follow up where Kevin finds love with Katie.

Yellow Pages: Mistletoe (1992)

‘Good old Yellow Pages’ coming to the rescue for a small boy wanting to grab a kiss under the mistletoe in this classic advert from 1992.

Fenwick: Paddington Bear (2017)

A Christmas tradition going back decades, window displays were the forerunner to TV adverts. Fenwick department store in Newcastle have wowed festive shoppers once again with their Paddington Bear theme.
