Meet Craig – Our new Web Developer
Published: March 2015
How did you become a web developer for Urban River?
I attended Northumbria University from 2007 – 2011 gaining a First Class BSc (Hons) in Multimedia Computing. I was also awarded the Northern Film and Media Prize for Outstanding Contribution in Creative Media and Animation. During my third year at university I carried out my work placement at Creating Careers working as a web developer. While there I was offered a permanent position in the business to commence after graduation. I accepted their offer and remained there until 2015. My role involved developing engaging interactive e-learning courses that maximise accessibility, customer experience and usability.
When finding out that Urban River were looking for a new web developer I was attracted to the role as I was looking for a new challenge and wanted to work on a wider range of projects. I sent off my CV and two interviews later I had been hired!
What do you love about your job?
I love a challenge and my job certainly is challenging! I have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects for a wide range of companies. I love being part of a project where I get to see the end result benefiting the client. It’s great to walk past a client’s workplace and say, “I built their website!”
It’s great to be part of a friendly and helpful team who really care about the company.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
There are many challenging parts to my job. As a web developer, you have to keep on top of new technologies, otherwise you will fall behind! When you develop a website there is always problem solving involved and challenges to conquer however this is something that I enjoy.
What was the best day of your career?
I don’t have a specific best day however I always feel great satisfaction when a project that I have spent time working on goes live and the client is happy. When the client is happy then I am happy!
What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not at work?
Outside of work I enjoy camping and geocaching. I like to watch and play sport; especially football. I am currently a season ticket holder at Newcastle United.
I have been a fan of long distance running for many years and enjoy taking part in running events and raising money for charities. I have completed the Great North Run 9 times and am currently training for my 10th!
