Urban River’s Top 10 Football Badge Designs
Published: August 2015
The football season is back and we thought we’d celebrate by looking at some of our favourite football badge designs and brands of all time. We’ve tried not to be too biased to our North East teams, honest!
Liverpool FC – this design just shouts ‘iconic’ with the ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ slogan and the Liver Bird, which is famously taken from Liverpool’s coat of arms.
Manchester United – again, we chose this design because of its popularity worldwide, which is probably the best result a brand could achieve. The red devil still stays prominent, and it’s great to see that the crest hasn’t changed too much over time.
Newcastle United FC – Apart from the fact half of our office are Geordies, this 1970’s badge had to make the list. The vintage black magpie brand was such a hit; it was relaunched on a ‘retro’ kit in 2010.
Sunderland AFC – Again, we promise we’re not bias! The 1973 logo for Sunderland, we think, is a classic. With a strong focus on their location in Roker Park close to the River Wear, it’s a great homage to the club’s heritage.
England – Three Lions on a shirt (and we’re not referencing Baddiel and Skinner) are not just a part of football history, they date back to biblical times. The mix of the tudor roses and lions make for a majestic, patriotic brand for our national team.
Tottenham Hotspur – Back of the net, and an office favourite – the simplistic, clean cockerel and football design is grassroots heritage for the club and we give it the UR branding seal of approval! Go Spurs!
Arsenal – The gunner’s ‘cannon’ design has been a part of their emblem for over 100 years, and the simple red, gold and blue colours are instantly recognisable and memorable.
Crystal Palace – Crystal Palace’s updated 2013 crest was designed by one of its fans and perfectly represents its club heritage; we’re a fan!
Swansea – Minimalistic, great design and timeless – nice one Swansea!
Nottingham Forest – This iconic football badge has been used by the club since 1947 and remains just as successful today.
